I joined the Daily Photos community on February 5, 2013, to challenge myself to keep posting, and to enjoy the images and comments of other posters to the community. I love nature, landscapes, monochromes, and old stuff, so those will be the majority of my daily postings (at least for now). The pictures will be new, old, and everything in between! Thanks to Linda Treleaven and Quincey Deters!

Aurora Borealis over Jasper Lake, Alberta

Another shot from the overnight Friday/Saturday to Jasper and back to Edmonton. I took this shot a little before midnight, while the half moon was still fairly high in the sky, so the mountains were illuminated and the aurora a bit less prominent.

Amazing aurora borealis over Obed Lake

This display was so amazing. I shot this with a 24 mm lens, and even with the wide-angle, could only capture a part of the arch. I tried doing some panoramas, but the Aurora was moving and dancing all the time, so Photoshop has trouble trying to line up the images! I'll be attempting some manual panorama blending - stay tuned...

This is Obed Lake, about 2 1/2 hours west of Edmonton, about 2 a.m.

Aurora Borealis over the Rocky Mountains near Jasper, Alberta

I took this shot a little after midnight. That's Jasper Lake in the foreground, looking pretty well due north. After the moon set, the display was much more stunning - as per yesterday's shot. I'll keep posting more for the next few days.

Magnificent Aurora Borealis arch

There was an outstanding aurora borealis display last night, and apparently it was visible even well into the USA. A friend and I drove west from Edmonton all the way to the mountains and back, getting back in town at 5 a.m. this morning!

I'll be posting more images coming up - this is at Obed Lake, west of Edson, Alberta, about 2:00 this morning. The aurora stretched from one horizon to the other... And tonight may be significantly better!

Old abandoned farm wagon

Another shot from last weekend at some old abandoned farms. I just love this old wagon, with the grasses all around it.

Abandoned farmhouse in the spring time

A few of us went out on Saturday afternoon, visiting various old abandoned farms north of the city. This was my favourite - a beautiful old farmhouse, with lots of outbuildings, sitting on the top of a small hill. (This is the same place as yesterday's posting)

Abandoned farm and wagon

3 of us were out north of the city yesterday afternoon, photographing some abandoned farms. This is one of my favourites - one of two old wagons, left in the fields beside other old abandoned buildings, with the gorgeous old farmhouse in the background.

Abandoned farm and Aurora Borealis

I took this shot last week, at the end of the late night chasing the aurora north of Edmonton. It's a spot I'd like to go back to - hopefully tonight, if the aurora and weather cooperate. Stay tuned!

Aurora Borealis Panorama

I took this shot on Monday night, a bit after midnight. It's actually a panorama of 9 images in portrait orientation, taken with my 50 mm f/1.4 wide open, each 8 seconds long at ISO 1250. I stitched them together in Photoshop and then used NIK Dfine to clean up the high-iso noise a bit. Unfortunately, it was quite windy, so the trees are fairly blurry. It works out to about 66.4 megapixels!
