I joined the Daily Photos community on February 5, 2013, to challenge myself to keep posting, and to enjoy the images and comments of other posters to the community. I love nature, landscapes, monochromes, and old stuff, so those will be the majority of my daily postings (at least for now). The pictures will be new, old, and everything in between! Thanks to Linda Treleaven and Quincey Deters!

Underlit eastern clouds at sunset over Abraham Lake, Alberta.

This was a few minutes before the shot I posted yesterday, this time looking to the south-east from the same spot (Windy Point). There was a great cloud front running right across the sky, and even with a howling wind, it was stationary. You can see how the trees on the point are permanently leaning because of the wind.

I'll post the finale of it all tomorrow.

Amazing underlit sunset clouds and reflection at Abraham Lake.

This was a couple of weekends ago, at another location on the lake, on the same day as yesterday's posting. It was at a place called "Windy Point", which is aptly named - you can see that the larger tree on the left is blurry from the wind!

We had been there for sunset, and nothing happened, and some of the photographers had left, and the sun had descended beyond the mountains west. We were sitting in our truck, deciding that we'd just wait a bit more.

Then, over a period of just a few minutes, the sun must have been lined up right with a gap in the clouds beyond our view on the west horizon, and underlit the EASTERN clouds. So this is the view looking north-east at sunset! We raced out of our vehicle, set up our tripods, and got a few shots and then it was gone in minutes. I'll post a couple more pictures over the next two days.

Happy Valentine's Day!
Slabs of ice on the frozen surface of Abraham Lake, Alberta.

I took this photo a couple of weekeds ago just after sunrise, with the low sun behind me. Good thing for ice cleats!

Barkley Sound, British Columbia

I took this shot at sunrise near Ucluelet, British Columbia, looking over the waters of Barkley Sound. A magical place!

Sun Peaks Resort Village

Sun Peaks is a ski resort near Kamloops, British Columiba (formerly called Tod Mountain). I was there visiting family and wandered down to the village at night. This was an HDR blend of 5 images. I know it's not for everyone, but I really liked the end result on this one.
Waterskiier Silhouette

A shot of my brother-in-law in late afternoon, looking almost directly into the sun from the boat. It was really bright, and so I was able to take the shot at 1/1600 sec, which stopped the spray. I clipped the blacks just a bit to make it more of a silhouette.

The front end of a Red Corvair, shot with a wide-angle lens and done with a grungy look to the processing to bring out the texture and color.

Moody Mountain Mists

The view looking over the Rocky Mountains from above, as the late afternoon sun highlighted the mists in the valleys.
